SQUIRRELS/HICKORY NUT AND SCALY BARK TREES

We kept seeing squirrels underneath a tree that is in our neighbor's yard but almost on the line between our houses. Finally,  Melvin went to see what they were gathering and came back with a nut. I told him that is a scaly bark. They are really hickory nut trees but in Northeast Mississippi where I grew up, we called them scaly barks. The squirrels are in heaven with all those nuts. They bring them back to the brick wall around our patio and eat the nut and leave the shells on top of our wall,  Knowing our neighbor, she probably planted the tree just for the squirrels.

If you look closely you can see a nut in the squirrel's mouth.
