DAY DREAMING AS A CHILD

When I was growing up as a child, we had it hard at times. Especially when we lived on the farm. I was ten years old when we moved from the farm to the outskirts of town.

We shouldn't have had it hard because we owned over 150 acres of land, but I don't think my dad knew how to manage money was the problem. We farmed and had three families of sharecroppers living on our land at one time.

But, the reason for the picture is when I was little and was bored I would just day dream. I would dream that I lived in a house like the one below and we had lots of money and I could have anything I wanted.

I sometimes even dreamed I had different parents. My mother was a good mother, so not sure why I wanted different parents. My dad could be very difficult and even mean at times.

Maybe I was just an odd little kid, but this house in the picture would have been the exact house I dreamed about living in.

The house in this picture is located in Illinois, but we had houses just like this one where I grew up in North East Mississippi.

Abby celebrated her third birthday in Oklahoma last night. Kim decided to have it out here this year instead of in Arkansas. There are more kids out here that Kim and Abby know than in Arkansas. Also, it was easier for Michelle, Carter and Karlie to drive down for it. They arrived just in time for the party.

Kim booked the party at Gymboree in Oklahoma City. I think all the kids had fun. I know that for sure Abby did. The lady in charge at Gymboree did a really good job. I totally recommend Gymboree for a three year old's birthday party.

Everyone is singing Happy Birthday to Abby. She is a little gotten off with.

ABBY TURNS THREE

Abby turned three yesterday, Friday the 13th, but she was not born on Friday the thirteenth. She celebrated her birthday with her dad's side of the family last night. Her and Kim will be coming to Oklahoma this week to celebrate again with our side of the family.

ABBY TAKES KARATE

Abby started taking karate lessons last week. Her dad is a black belt and her teacher. The uniform is the smallest they could order and is still a little big for her. I had to laugh when I saw Kim had put a bow in her hair. I hear she loved it. I remember when Abby was born and Kim and I talked about how cute she would look someday in her karate uniform. I can't believe that she will be three next week and already old enough to take karate. Time does fly.

OUR TRIP (DAY THREE)

This was the day of the game. So, hubby and Tracy were planning on leaving for the game around 3:30. We decided to sleep a little later, go down for breakfast and then do a little sight seeing. The first place we drove through was next to our hotel. It was a retirement community or as they call them out here, an active adult community. They didn't fib, they were all active, playing golf, walking and playing tennis.

This community was beautiful. As you entered, the medians were lined with palm trees. I think every house had at least one palm tree in their yard and cactus. The really tall cactus. There were more golf carts on the street than cars. This community had four golf courses, several lakes and waterfalls. The houses weren't huge, but I guess older people down size and also for some, it might be their vacation home. Some houses also had a view of the mountain. I think hubby and I could definitely live here after he retires, but it is just too far.

We didn't have time to do a lot of sight seeing. Tracy and hubby went to Trader Joe's to pick up some things and they had never been in one. We don't have them in Oklahoma. They were wearing their OSU shirts and the sacker told them that he went to OSU for one semester. They gave him a bull riding scholarship. Who knew they even gave those, but he said that he didn't study and flunked out after one semester. I guess that is why he was sacking at Trader Joe's. I just thought it was kind of funny.

We then went to eat lunch at Five Guys. We don't have those in Oklahoma either. It was so good. I know that it is really bad for you, but we didn't really eat that bad the whole time, except for then. Some nights, we just went to the grocery store and picked up a salad and took it back to the hotel.

After that, it was time for them to head to the game. They were gone eight hours and I did get bored, staying in the hotel. I took a little nap, watched TV and also watched the game. They told me after they got home around 11:30 that they didn't either one have any cell phone service inside the dome. If I had needed them for any reason, I could not have gotten in touch with them. I sure am glad I didn't know it until afterwards.

Day four, we got up and started back home. I didn't take any pictures on the way back. We stopped in Flagstaff again and ate lunch. We all fell in love with Flagstaff. We made it back to Albuquerque around six, checked in the same hotel that we had stayed in on our way to Phoenix. We then went to eat dinner and came back to the hotel and watched a little TV. We all went to bed early that night.

Day five, we got up really early and headed back to Oklahoma. We passed a lot of OSU fans on the way back also. Like I said, I really enjoyed the trip, but it was so good to get back in Oklahoma.

OUR TRIP (DAY TWO)

We headed out early the next morning for Phoenix. When we left Albuquerque, the temperature was 15 degrees. When we arrived in Phoenix it was 81 degrees. We actually stayed in Surprise, Arizona, a suburb of Phoenix. Surprise is where the Texas Rangers and the Kansas City Royals do their spring training. Surprise is a beautiful city with lots of retirement communities.

But, as we got closer to Flagstaff, we saw lots of snow, especially on the mountain tops. We stopped to eat at a Cracker Barrel in Flagstaff since it was New Year's Day and we had to eat black eyed peas. Remember we are from the South originally. There were also several OSU fans eating there also.

Flagstaff was pretty with its snow and there were a lot more trees. They were also a lot taller than what we had been seeing. We arrived in Surprise, Arizona around 4:30. We ended up going to bed really early that night also. (To be continued)

This was Mount Elden or The San Francisco Peaks in Flagstaff. It seems like we could see this mountain at least one hundred miles before we ever got to it.
Getting closer. Seeing this mountain made our whole trip worth it.
As we were leaving Flagstaff going toward Phoenix. We saw kids sledding everywhere. A field of cactus as were entering Phoenix.

OUR TRIP (DAY ONE)

The purpose of our trip, as I have stated before, was for hubby and Tracy to attend the Fiesta Bowl and get to see Oklahoma State play Stanford. We traveled a little over 2200 miles round trip. I really enjoyed the trip, I think we all did. But, it was very tiring. I am glad to be back in Oklahoma.

We had intended to make it the first day to Albuquerque and spend the night, which we did. It took us about 8 1/2 hours. We left Saturday, New Years Eve. We arrived in Albuquerque around 4:30 in the afternoon. We gained an hour. We had taken food for our breakfast and lunch, so we only had to stop for bathroom breaks. We also stopped in Amarillo to eat our lunch in the car. We went through four states to get to Phoenix. Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico and Arizona. The only one that I never been to was Arizona.

After we entered New Mexico, the terrain really begin to change.

We stopped here for gas. The wind had really picked up. Tracy almost blew away trying to pump gas. I should have taken a picture of the place. It was located on Route 66 and had a sign on their door that said they could refuse service to anyone because of their looks. They had several signs that said you could not use their bathrooms unless you were a paying customer and their bathrooms were filthy. After this stop, we made it a point to only stop at McDonald's to use the bathroom or where we were stopping to eat.
Hubby took a picture of the gas pump, because it was so old. He didn't even think these kind of pumps were around anymore.

As we got closer to Albuquerque, we begin to see a little snow.When we got to our hotel, I was ready to crash for the night. I don't think I could have gone another mile. We were all pretty tired. But, since it was New Year's Eve, Tracy talked me into going out to eat. We went to Chili's at around 5:30 and then went to get a bottle of champagne to take back to the hotel. Tracy and hubby fully intended to see the New Year in. I went to bed at nine and Tracy decided at ten to go back to her room to watch TV. Hubby came to bed about ten. So, none of us saw the New Year in. There were a few OSU fans staying at the same hotel, we stayed at in Albuquerque. Hubby talked to a few of them. (to be continued)

We are back. Hubby and Tracy think it was definitely worth the long trip to see their beloved Cowboys win. I will be back tomorrow to post pictures and tell about of our trip.

FIESTA BOWL BOUND

As I have mentioned on my blog before, Tracy graduated from Oklahoma State and hubby is a big fan. This is the first time ever, that OSU has gotten invited to a major bowl. Who knows if it will ever happen again. So, Tracy, hubby and I are traveling to Phoenix, Arizona to watch OSU play in the Fiesta Bowl. Actually, I am not going to the game , I am just tagging along for the ride. I have never been to Arizona and have always wanted to go.

Phoenix is 16 hours from Oklahoma City. We will leave tomorrow and spend New Year's Eve in Albuquerque. Then we will spend two nights in Phoenix and spend a night in Albuquerque on the way back.

I plan on taking lots of pictures.

LITTLE GERMAN GIRLS

I think I have written before on my blog that Jamie's dad made a career in the military and they spent over twenty years in Germany. They still have a love for Germany. His mom has a stash of German dresses so, for Christmas she took Abby and her cousin to have their pictures made in the dresses.

CHRISTMAS MORNING

Everyone has left and the house is very quiet. I think we all had a really good Christmas and was happy with all the gifts they received. I know I was. Santa was certainly good to Carter and Karlie.Lulu like to watch the cars go around on Carter's race track.
Carter was Santa and handed out the gifts to everyone. We have all been waiting for one of the grandkids to get old enough to do it.
Karlie decided she needed to help also.

We kept telling Karlie that she was having a bad hair day, but she didn't care. When I look at these pictures, it reminds me so much of her mommy when she was that age. Except, Karlie's hair is not as curly as her mommy's was.
Kim and Abby left to go back home to Arkansas on Christmas Eve. It looks like Santa was pretty good to Abby also.
We are going on a trip. I will be back later in the week to let you know where we are going.

Michelle and family arrived last night. Tracy fixed for everyone to eat at her house. The kids had a ball playing together. The monster(Carter) chased the little girls all over the house and they loved it. I didn't get that many pictures, but Abby and Karlie would hold hands and run all through the house. It is a good thing Tracy has a big house now.

This guest bedroom has a chalkboard on one wall. It was the little boy's room from the family that lived in the house before Tracy bought it. So, Tracy just left it like it was, so the kids can play with it when they visit.

In this picture, you can see how close to the same size Abby and Karlie are.
Tracy is probably not going to appreciate me putting this picture on, but it is cute with all three on her back.

ABBY OPENS GIFTS

Since Kim and Abby have to leave on Christmas Eve to go back home, Abby opened her gifts tonight. We decided it would be best before Karlie arrives tomorrow.

Yes, Abby is a little girl and Aunt Tracy bought her a Thomas the Train Set, because she loves trains. Karlie loves trains also and she also bought Karlie one.
Michelle and family will be arriving tomorrow and we will all go over to Tracy's house tomorrow night for a get together.

Kim and Abby arrived yesterday. It rained all day today. Just a a really nasty day. So, we did not do anything. But, Kim has lots of things planned for tomorrow. Kim did dress Abby in one of her Christmas outfits and took some cute pictures of her under the tree.

CHRISTMAS DECORATING

I am finally finished decorating. I think I have done a good bit of decorating, until I read these blogs where they have just gone all out. One blog I read, the lady has decorated 14 trees in her house. Yes, she does have a big house but still, I cannot imagine decorating 14 trees. We do well to decorate just one. I have most of my shopping done also. One last trip to Target. I will make that as close to Christmas as possible, so I have to make only one trip. The gifts are all wrapped. So, now I just need to clean.

Tracy has vounteered to make cookies this weekend, so the grand kids will have something to munch on while they are here. Don't know about all kids, but ours are sweet eaters if they are allowed.

Kim and Abby will be arriving on Sunday. They will be leaving to go back home on Christmas Eve. Michelle and family will be arriving on Thursday. We will all get together at least one night over at Tracy's house. Some will be staying over there at night also.

Our tree. Kim and I looked everywhere for mesh, but we waited too late and it was all sold out. So, next year we will buy it really early and put it on our trees. I think trees look so pretty with it on. In fact I think mine looks plain without any ribbon or mesh on it. But, hubby thinks the tree is beautiful.

CARTER'S THANKSGIVING PROGRAM

This is Carter's Thanksgiving program at his school. I love the look on his face. Like, do you really think I am going to eat this. He doesn't eat. If I had to guess, he probably ate his roll and drank his milk and that was all. His Mom was a picky eater also. He is getting to be such a big boy. It has only been a month since I saw him, but he has changed so much.

OUR THANKSGIVING

This year was Michelle and Tad's year to go to his family in North West Missouri. So, hubby and I traveled to Arkansas to spend Thanksgiving with Kim and Family. We arrived on Tuesday and Tracy joined us on Wednesday night.

Kim did most of the cooking for our Thanksgiving Dinner. It consisted of turkey, cornbread dressing, Honey Baked ham, green bean casserole, broccoli cheese casserole, sweet potato casserole, fruit salad, rolls, two pumpkin pies and a pecan pie. It was all really good.

Abby on Thanksgiving Day, playing outside. It was a warm day, in the sixties.

On Saturday, Kim, Tracy and I took Abby to the Old Mill to take pictures for my Christmas card. After pictures, we went to Jason's Deli to eat. Abby thought she was going to get to go shopping, so she got to go to Petco and pick out a toy for Tucker.

The Old Mill is the perfect place to take pictures, but it takes at least two people to keep Abby from falling in the lake.

Not sure which one I will use for my card, but I thought all of these were cute.

OWL HATS

Kim has someone on F/B that makes these owl hats. So, I had Kim have the lady make one for Abby and Karlie. I think they turned out cute. It was even cold enough in Arkansas for Abby to try hers out at the park. Just hope Karlie will keep hers on. Michelle took Carter and Karlie to the doctor on Wednesday and Karlie has another ear infection. The doctor said they may have to put tubes in her ears.

KARLIE TURNS TWO

Tracy and I traveled to Kansas City on Friday to help Karlie celebrate her second birthday. It had a princess theme. She had fun, but she was cutting her molars and also taking a cold.

Her mommy bought her a tiara to wear, but she refused.

She is blowing out the candles, she knew exactly what she was suppose to do.
She also refused to wear her tutu,so Michelle just put it across her lap. She is a very stubborn little girl.

Taking her doll pack and play, she received as a gift to another room, so her twin cousins could not play with it. She did not want them playing with any of her gifts.

The doll carriage that her Aunt Tracy gave her. She loved it.

Her little cousins wanted to check it out also.

Tracy and I got up and drove home today. We really enjoyed spending time with Carter and Karlie, just wish they hadn't been sick.

Karlie was Pebbles for Halloween. If the costume looks familiar, it is because Abby wore it last year for Halloween. Michelle said Karlie refused to wear it at first, so she had to get the computer and show her a picture of a little girl wearing the costume. Then Karlie decided she would wear it. And she is only two. In case you don't know what Carter was dressed as, he was Dale Earnhardt Sr. The mustache and sunglasses were his idea. Pretty cute!! He is a big Nascar fan.

ABBY TRICK-OR-TREATS

Kim was all ready to get Abby dressed in her costume last night and she had fallen asleep on the sofa. So, she let her sleep for about thirty minutes and then woke her. She was not fully awake when they started. They first went to a few houses in our neighborhood then they took her over to Aunt Tracy's neighborhood to go to a few more. She enjoyed it, and sure enjoyed the candy. Kim finally had to hide it from her.

We only had twenty trick-or-treaters. This is not a huge neighborhood. The family that lives behind us has a two year old and a baby. We have only spoken to them, but never really talked. They brought their little girl by and told us that our cat,Lulu walks with them and also scratches their door to come in their house. That was embarrassing. She is a very friendly cat.

STORYBOOK FORREST

Aunt Tracy and Kim took Abby to a place called The Storybook Forrest last night. It is not far from our house. It is beside a lake. The kids walk on a little path through the woods and storybook themes are set up. There are people dressed up along the way handing out candy. I think some places they are reading stories. It sounded cute to me, but I think Kim and Tracy thought it was a little lame. But, Abby enjoyed it.

It was cool, since it was by the lake and the wind was blowing, but it was not cool enough for a hat and mittens. Abby just thought they were necessary. This was Abby's favorite. She cried all the way home, that she wanted to go back and rock the baby.

After they got back from The Storybook Forrest, we all went over to Tracy's and Abby got to see Bob. It made Abby so happy. Does Bob look happy?

Abby decided to put Aunt Tracy's boots on and walk around in them. She was pretty good at it.

Not sure what the plans are for today, but I think Kim wants it to be an activity that doesn't include candy.

ABBY ARRIVES

Kim and Abby arrived yesterday. We didn't do much today. We took Abby over to Tracy's house, so she could see Bob. Abby calls him Bobby. But, Bob found a good hiding place and never came out. It was so sad, Abby had his treats in her hands and was going to every room, calling where are you Bobby. She loves him so much, but Bob doesn't like her. We will try again when Tracy is home and maybe she can get him to come out of his hiding spot.

We took this picture before we left to go to Tracy's. Abby wouldn't have her picture made without her blanket, so Kim finally convinced her to just sit on it. Tracy and Kim took Abby to see the movie Puss in Boots tonight. Kim has several Halloween activities planned for Abby tomorrow.

PUMPKINS

This picture was taken at our local zoo. They gave all the animals pumpkins. They said the elephants really had fun playing with the pumpkins. Kim and Abby will be arriving tomorrow and one of the activities we have planned for Abby is "Haunt the Zoo". We have several things planned, just hope the weather doesn't spoil them.

Carter went with his Dad to the driving range yesterday. He hit a ball 70 yards. That is pretty impressive for a little boy his age. He had his Dad write on the ball how many yards he hit it. And of course he was going to keep the ball.

Fall table scape/love doing them but I am not really that good at doing them.

Have to have candy corn, not Fall without candy corn. This is the only kind of candy hubby will eat.
I have this in my foyer now, but I think I will put a candle in it and light it on Halloween night and put it on the porch for the trick-or-treaters. I am so excited, we will have Abby here this year for trick-or-treating. Kim and Abby will be coming on Friday before Halloween.
Haven't figured out how to keep the straw off the porch. The wind blows really hard here most of the time. I do sweep it, but it is right back on after I sweep.

Our mums should be in bloom by this weekend, but we are suppose to have a freeze next week. I guess we can just cover them at night.

HOUSE OF MANY COLORS

School colors, that is. We support many different colleges in this house. Hubby graduated from Mississippi State University, but is an Oklahoma State University fan. Tracy graduated from Oklahoma State and is definitely an Oklahoma State fan. Michelle and Tad graduated from Kansas Newman in Wichita, but they are Mizzou fans, because his parents and brother and sister graduated from Mizzou. Kim attended University of Central Oklahoma, but is an Oklahoma Sate fan also. Jamie graduated from the University of Georgia.

ROAST

Tracy came over and ate dinner with us tonight. I cooked a roast with lots of potatoes and carrots. Yes, there is a roast under all those potatoes and carrots. It was really good, even if I did cook it. I had not cooked a roast in a long time. I can't even remember the last time I cooked one. Tracy made a fruit salad and brought it. I had read about this fruit salad on another blog and they said it was really good and they were right. I am posting the recipe at the bottom.

Frozen Fruit Salad

1 – 8 ounce bar cream cheese
¾ cup sugar
1 – 10 ounce box frozen strawberries (1/2 pint)
1 small can drained crushed pineapple
½ cup nuts
2 diced bananas
1 large tub cool whip

Combine cream cheese and sugar together in mixing bowl, then add the remaining ingredients. Mix well and pour into a 9 x 13 pan and freeze for several hours. Let thaw for 15 minutes before serving. Good enough to be a dessert too.

THE PUMPKIN PATCH

Carter and Karlie went to the pumpkin patch with all their cousins on their dad's side of the family this weekend. It is the same pumpkin patch they go to every year. It is not too far from their house. Karlie with all of her boy cousins. I think she holds her own pretty good with them.
They said that Karlie was not afraid to try anything.

MODELING CONTEST

Michelle entered Carter and Karlie in a modeling contest. This was the photo shoot for the contest. Don't know if they will win or not but the lady was able to get some cute pictures of them. I think she followed Karlie around is the way she ended up getting good ones of her. Of course these pictures are just proofs and are property of The Happy Chick Photography.

It is 56 degrees here, with light rain. I drove around today and took some pictures of the animals. We had a brutal Summer. We had over 50 days with 100 degrees or above. At least one day it was 113 degrees and the norm was 106 to 107 degrees most days. We also had a drought. I can only remember it raining two or three times the entire summer. And of course, we had the grass fires that we ran from. These animals seem to be so happy today, with the cooler temperatures and didn't seem to mind the rain at all. They have suffered this Summer also, more than us, because they were out in the weather.

The kids went to the park yesterday. They enjoyed it. Kim ended up getting lots of cute pictures of them. We didn't end up doing our birthday dinner at a restaurant. Tracy and Michelle made us dinner at the house. It was really good.

The kids have enjoyed being together so much, I wish they could be together more often. There has been a few instances of Abby and Karlie fighting over toys. But overall they have gotten a long really good.

ENTERTAINING

Well, we took them to get their picture made yesterday. All I can say is that it was very entertaining. Carter and Abby was very good but Karlie did not want to sit and have hers made. She kept running off. The photographer was finally able to get one of all three after about an hour of trying. I should have them on Wednesday so I can post them.

Michelle is always telling me that Karlie has a little attitude and yes, I was able to see a little of that attitude yesterday.

Melvin and Tad went to the OSU game in Stillwater yesterday. So, after pictures we picked up something to eat and then let the kids play in the sand box. Later, we went to get ice cream. They have had so much fun playing together. Abby is going to miss them, because she doesn't have other kids to play with.

Today is the birthday dinner, but not sure it is going to work everyone going to a restaurant or not.

Kim and Abby arrived yesterday afternoon. Today we all went to the outlet malls in Oklahoma City. We all took turns watching Abby in the food court while others shopped. They have a playground inside the food court so Abby could play.

Michelle and family arrived tonight. Abby and Karlie have gotten along pretty good and I think enjoyed playing together. Carter just sits and plays his DS. Aunt Tracy bought him a new game for it.

One thing we didn't anticipate was that they would both want the stroller. We have lots of baby dolls but only one stroller. So, it may mean a trip to Target tomorrow for another stroller. That is about the only time they haven't gotten along.

Abby loves for Karlie to chase her. We are taking them to have their portrait made tomorrow. Wish us luck.

GRASS FIRES, BIRTHDAYS ETC.

There was another massive grass fire in Oklahoma City yesterday. It did not get as close as the last one though. Hubby and I sat out on the patio last night and we could see the smoke and smell it also. It is still just so hot and dry here. It is still reaching to 106 every day. I can't remember the last time we had any rain. But, we are suppose to get some relief from the heat this weekend. One day it will only be in the eighties. That will seem so cool. If we have a day where the high is only 98 it seems cool.

We have one daughter and granddaughter that will be arriving tomorrow and the rest of the family will be arriving on Friday. It is nice to have two houses for everyone now. Some will be staying with Tracy. Not sure which ones right now. Tracy has a pond, one house down from her house and that is a worry with little kids, since her backyard is not totally fenced.

We will be celebrating birthdays. Kim's is the 2nd and mine is the 5th. I am even going to tell ages, hope Kim doesn't mind. Kim will be turning 32 and I will be turning 60. We also plan to take the grand kids to have a portrait made. We are not too sure if Abby and Karlie are going to cooperate, but we will just see.

Some will be going to the OSU game on Saturday, not exactly sure which two right now. We will try a birthday dinner at a restaurant, but not sure how that will turn out with Abby and Karlie also. But, I am just so excited to have everyone together.

I don't really have much to blog about, so I thought I would just post some pictures of my kitchen. I have it pretty much like I want it, maybe a few things that I want to change. The next room that I am going to start on is my guest bedroom that I call(Mother's room). I am really excited about it. It will have my Mother's antique bed in it and hubby's grandmother's antique dresser. This dresser was made in the 1890's, so it is really an antique. I will post pictures of the before and after. But, the after will not be any time soon. I will definitely not start on it before the kids and grand kids all come for Labor Day.

I have been in a flood, they had to push a boat in our front door and take us to safety. I have ran from a tornado and sat and watch one hit a city close by. I have now been in a grass fire. The grass fire so far, has been the scariest.

We knew by noon yesterday that the fire was close to our house. We could see the smoke and smell it also. We were watching TV and paying close attention to what was happening. They would say it was close, then say they had it under control. I kept telling hubby that I was sure if it got really close, that they would evacuate us.

At about six we decided to grill some hamburgers. Hubby started the grill and I made out the patties. He went back out and then came back in and said he would just turn off the grill. He said maybe we should start preparing to leave our house. I ask him why and he said for me to go and look at the back door. When I looked out I saw flames over the top of the houses beside us.

I said yes, it is definitely time to leave and we hurriedly put on our shoes and grabbed Lulu and put her in the car. We live in a gated neighborhood with only one way in and one way out. There are around sixty-five families that live in the neighborhood and they had all decided it was time to leave also.
We were able to get out of our neighborhood and onto the street in front of our house, but the cars were bumper to bumper and at a standstill because of everyone trying to leave our neighborhood. There were flames on both sides of our car. The flames were as close to the street as they could get. We were probably at a standstill for only about ten or fifteen minutes but it seemed a lot longer. People were beginning to panic and leave the street and drive in the road ditches. I ask hubby to also and but he remained calm and we waited. I did not remain calm. I called Tracy and told her we had left the house and was trying to get to her house, but I was sure we were going to burn to death first.

They still had not evacuated our neighborhood. We did not see a policeman or firetruck anywhere. Even with the air conditioner going full blast, we could feel the heat. It felt like when you have a fire in the fireplace and back up to it.

We found out later they evacuated our neighborhood five minutes after we left. We made it to Tracy's house about an hour later. She only lives three miles from us but they had closed the interstate and all roads were blocked. We could only go North and East and we needed to go West and South to get to her house.

I was sure that our house would be burned down when we finally were able to get back in the neighborhood. I just could not see anyway that it would still be standing. Finally, at eleven-thirty the Red Cross notified us that we could return to our house. Our neighborhood is about the only thing around that didn't burn. The fire trucks must have arrived in our neighborhood right after we left and began spraying with water.

I don't in any way want to make you think that the fire department didn't do their job. It was too much for them to handle. Even though seven extra fire departments were called in.

We got up early this morning and drove around to see all the damage. A lot of the trees around us have been destroyed. Oklahoma doesn't have a lot of trees and that is one reason we bought in this part of the city was for the trees.

But, our house is fine. It just smells like smoke and probably will for a long time.

Tracy invited us over for dinner tonight. She made Moroccan chicken for us. It was really good. Kim introduced it to us when she came and stayed the three weeks with us back in May. She made it for us several times and we loved it.

So, while we were over there for dinner, I finally took some pictures of her house to share with everyone on my blog. She has only been in for about a month so I think she has gotten it put together pretty good. Better than we had our house at a month.

This is her kitchen. It is my favorite room in the house. The left side. I guess I could have backed up and gotten a picture of the whole kitchen. Some how didn't think of that.

I told her her picture is too high but she said she wants to use the holes that were already there.

Her bedroom. It doesn't look like it in this picture, but her bedroom is huge and right now it looks kind of bare, so she will need to fill it.

Pictures still piled in the corner of her living room that she doesn't know where to hang. Michelle and Kim are coming Labor Day, so maybe they can help her figure out where to hang them. She said Michelle will probably tell her to just throw them all away. Tracy is like me she has trouble getting rid of stuff that is still good, but maybe we can just sell them at a garage sale.

The one thing that I will remember about this trip is how hot it was. We really did not do too much. I only left the cabin one time while I was there. Tracy and Kim tried to go shopping with Abby but Abby was not having it. They only made it to two stores. I can't blame her, it was just too hot. She came back to the cabin with her face red and her hair wet with sweat. So, she decided to take a nap, then Kim and Tracy went back to several stores. Pap-pa and I stayed with Abby. They ended up getting lots of cute fall stuff for Abby and Karlie.

I don't pick out much for Carter anymore, because I just don't know what little boys who are turning six wear. I just give his mommy money and let her buy for him. He is probably glad I do.

We stayed in the cabins at Thousand Hills Golf Resort. They were really nice and had lots of privacy. We were only the second family to stay in this one. It looked brand new and was really clean. It was also decorated really nice.

I think this cartoon pretty much sums up what it feels like to live where we live right now. We did have some rain yesterday, which helped cool things off a little, but it is suppose to be 110 degrees here on Sunday.
We are going on another short vacation. Hubby, Tracy and I will be leaving on Friday to meet, Kim, Abby, and Jamie. Kim says Abby ask everyday about Momo, Pap-pa and ReeRee(that is what she calls Tracy). She wants to know when she is going to see us again. We are all excited to see her also. I just hope it will be a little cooler where we are going. We will all be staying in this cabin. I will post about our trip when we return.

LASLO'S AND WILD TURKEYS

We arrived in Kansas City on Thursday afternoon. We decided to get up Friday morning and drive to Lincoln, Nebraska. We had to go a different direction and that added an extra hour and a half to our trip. I can now say that I have been to Nebraska. The two things that I will remember about Lincoln are Laslo's Brewery and Grill and Wild Turkeys.

We ate at Laslo's Brewery and Grill in the Haymarket Historic District which is in itself pretty neat. The food was great.

We both got kabobs. Hubby got steak kabobs.

He also got a beer. He may have liked this the best. They have their own brewery.

I got the chicken kabobs.

Just as we crossed over the line from Kansas to Nebraska, a wild turkey walked in front of our car. I would never have guessed of wild turkeys being in Nebraska, but we saw several in Lincoln.
We got up Saturday morning and drove back to Kansas City but we did drive out and take some pictures of some covered bridges before we left. I don't think these were old ones. I think they were pretty new but I love covered bridges. I loved the movie 'Bridges of Madison County' and I do know that it was filmed in Iowa.

We decided to go another way back, that would be closer, so we cut up by the Missouri river that was flooding. This picture is as we crossed over from Nebraska into Missouri at Rock Port, Missouri. This picture is not the river, but beside the river where it had overflowed its banks. I think several levees had broken.
We also saw lots and lots of corn along the way. No picture.

We got back to Kansas City on Saturday afternoon and Tracy was babysitting Carter and Karlie for their parents to attend a wedding out of town. We had promised Carter that we would take him to Zonkers, an indoor amusement park, after we got back. Tracy was kind of afraid to take both of them by herself, since she is not use to taking care of two little kids. They were really good and I think they both enjoyed it.

Karlie does smile. In fact, she smiles all the time. She is just very serious when she is around new things and people.

We headed back home Sunday afternoon. Tracy has finally closed on both houses. Her pod would not hold all her belongings, so we filled both our SUVs. I know she will be so glad when this move is done. She has been working on it for almost a year. I promise I will have pictures coming of her house. It is beautiful. I got to see it for the first time last night.

I wanted to go ahead and post this early because we are leaving today to go on a short vacation. I will not be on the internet while we are gone. It is still iffy if we are going to Nebraska or not with all the flooding going on in the Midwest. We will have to go an alternate route if we do.

Well, not really a lot going on around here. It has been really hot and humid lately. It feels more like July or August than the first week in June. We didn't really do anything for Memorial Day. But, we are planning a little trip to Nebraska in a couple of weeks. Because, I have never been to Nebraska. We will spend a night going and coming with our grand kids in Kansas City. That is the week Tracy will be closing on her house in Kansas City and she will also be staying at their house and babysitting. Their parents are going to a wedding a couple of hours away.

I will post some pictures of Tracy's new house in Oklahoma, once she closes on it. It is a really nice house with a nice neighborhood. The neighborhood has seven ponds with big fat ducks running around everywhere. Not sure how her cats will like the ducks. But, I am sure Tracy is ready to get moved in and have her own things again.

I miss Abby. It seems like everything around the house reminds me of her. Kim has been asking about one of her cute little zebra smocked dresses that she has not been able to find since they returned home. I had looked for it and Tracy went upstairs and looked for it last night in the bedroom they stayed in while they were here. She looked in the closet and under the bed, but could not find it.

While doing laundry a while ago I lifted the top on the trash can in the laundry room to throw something away and there was her little dress along with three pair of her pants. I am assuming Miss Abby threw them in there. I just e-mailed Kim and told her she may want to start checking the trash if she misses anything.

Abby got a new sand box and went to her first birthday party for a little boy who just turned one over Memorial Day weekend. Aunt Tracy had bought her a sand box when she was staying with us but it was too big for Mommy to lug back to Arkansas. So, it will just stay here for all the grand kids to play with when they come to visit.

If Abby doesn't get to go play during the day, she is cranky. So, we were going to take her to a place called Bouncing Craze, but when we got there, they had closed at one. So, we decided to go to a Chick-Fil-A that has an outside playground. She is use to going to one with an inside one. But, I really think she is burnt out on playing at them. She didn't care about playing at all.

Abby and mommy are leaving to go back to Arkansas. They have been here three weeks. I have to admit that at times it was stressful, because Momo is not use to having a little two year old around. It has been almost thirty years since I had a two year getting into every thing. But, I am going to miss her so much. I will miss every time that she went up and down the stairs and I was sitting in the computer room, her yelling, hi momo or nite nite Momo. Some times, she would tell me three times nite nite before she actually went to bed. One time I was sitting on the potty with the door open, because I am so use to being the only one in the house and I just forgot to close the door. But, Abby comes riding her tricycle as fast as she can down the hall and just wheels into the bathroom and runs over both my feet. She looked up at me like that she had accomplished something, being able to hit both feet at the same time.

But, when she would come and sit in my lap and cuddle with me, I forgot all about how mischievous she could be at times. I think she will also miss Aunt Tracy and Pap-pa. When Pap-pa was out of town, she would never fail to ask, where is Pap-pa. She will also miss the meows, maybe them most of all and I think they may even miss her.

MY BROTHER

This is a picture of my brother(far right). I like to see a picture of who people are talking about and I am sure others do also. Both of my brothers were good looking when they were young. When I was still in elementary school and they were in high school, I would have all these girls, their age, come up to me and ask me to introduce them. They wanted to date them. It kind of annoyed me. But, I would go home and tell them what they said. One girl that lived on the same street as us was really pretty and went on to be Miss New Albany. My brother and her talked a few times but never dated. I think that was around the time that he met his future wife.

There were times we didn't get along. I was so upset with him at one time that I told my sister that once my mother was no longer living, that I would no longer have contact with him. It is one of those things that I can't believe I was that upset, but at the time I thought I had good reason to be. There are nine years diffence in mine and his age. He and my sister are only two years apart. But, I was the one he wanted to know first about his illness. He still hasn't contacted my sister.

I talked to my nephew on Wednesday after the surgery and he said that he actually has colon cancer and that it has spread to his lungs. He has stage four lung cancer. Needless to say the prognosis is not good. But, when he recovers enough from the surgery, he will begin chemo. Like my nephew said, all they can do is take it one day at a time.

The high here yesterday was predicted to be 98 but I think it actually only got up to 95. But, that is still pretty hot. Definitely hot enough to pull out the pool and blow it up and fill it with water for Abby to play in. She had a ball, but even with lots of sunscreen on, she started to get red. So, she didn't get to stay out that long. But, at least we got some cute pictures of her in the pool.

WHEN IT RAINS, IT POURS

When I was a little child, I heard this said all the time, mostly from my father. Well, I was saying it this weekend. I buried my mother exactly three months ago this weekend. On Saturday, my sister-in-law called to tell me my brother wasn't doing so well, that he has cancer, lung cancer and he will be having surgery on Wednesday in Oxford, Ms. It will be the same doctor that did surgery on my Mother when she broke her hip back in December. He is only 69, I don't consider that very old. He is my only living brother. My other brother died in a one car accident 17 years ago at the age of 49. We still don't know all the details about that and I don't think we ever will.

I don't have that many followers on my blog, probably only thirty regular ones. But, I am always telling my kids if I could really write about what happens in my life, I would have at least three times that amount probably. I just feel I shouldn't put it all out there. I have thought about just making it private so I could. It would be good to get it all off my chest.

But, for some good news, Tracy sold her house in Overland Park, Ks. It had been on the market for almost a year. She has been living with us and working since November. She is very excited to finally get to start looking for a house here in Oklahoma.

On Saturday was an Easter egg hunt at the local park in their grandparents home town. I don't think Karlie was that interested in the Easter Bunny. But, Carter likes him.

Abby and family came in on Friday night. Dad had to stay in a hotel close by, because he is allergic to our cats. So, after dinner we all went to the hotel to swim in the indoor pool. Abby now likes to swim, finally. In fact, she had a melt-down when it was time to get out.On Saturday, Abby got to go Orr Family Farm about thirty minutes from our house. Tracy says it reminds her of Deanna Rose Children's Farmstead in Overland Park, Kansas. She loved it, except she didn't really care for the animals. There was no way she was going to ride a pony. There was something to jump on. Look how high she can jump. I was impressed.Since it was Easter, they had an Easter Egg hunt. She found several eggs.

This was the only way she was going to have her picture made with the Easter Bunny.

Her favorite thing there was the sand box. After she found it, she didn't care about doing anything else.

Kim didn't tell her until Easter morning that the Easter Bunny came to see her. She didn't really know what to think. These are gifts from the Easter Bunny, Momo and Pap-pa and Aunt Tracy.

We woke up to rain on Easter morning. But, mommy dressed her up all cute in her Easter dress to go out for dinner. But, when we got to the restaurant only Momo, Pap-pa and Aunt Tracy ended up eating at the restaurant. Mommy, Daddy and Abby had to leave. It is a long, long story. Abby got to go swimming again that night. ..................THE END

Abby went on an Easter egg hunt today at a local park. I think she had fun. Also notice that she got a hair cut. She is looking like such a big girl now.

ONE-HUNDRED YEAR OLD TREE

This is a video of a 100 year old tree that fell during a storm yesterday in my hometown in Northeast Mississippi. Seeing those big old trees makes me sad that we don't have any, where we live now. But, on the other hand, it is nice to know we won't have to clean them up if we have a storm or high winds.
